In the era of big data, centralized information systems are essential for organizations—especially alumni associations. The official alumni network of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (IKALUIN) commissioned a custom-built All-in-One Alumni Web & Application Platform. This project presented a unique challenge: integrating the simplicity and accessibility of WordPress-style CMS into a fully customized platform using CodeIgniter 4 (HMVC). Key features include alumni dashboards, business directories, event management, article/blog publishing, and integrated OAuth logins. While the project is still in development, it is designed for long-term scalability and social impact within the alumni community.
📘 Project Background
IKALUIN, the official alumni association of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, identified the need for a centralized digital platform to manage alumni data and foster long-term engagement. I was asked to design a grand digital blueprint that would serve various needs—from reconnecting with classmates to promoting alumni businesses and organizing events. The platform aims to be both functional and socially engaging, helping alumni build networks, share opinions, and stay updated through a modern, integrated system.
⚠️ Challenges
Translating the flexibility and user-friendliness of WordPress into a custom, framework-based architecture (CodeIgniter 4 with HMVC pattern)
Designing a system that supports multiple alumni-related features while keeping it simple for non-technical users
Accommodating various user interactions such as event registration, article contribution, and directory search in a secure and scalable way
Balancing technical complexity with future-proof scalability
💻 Technologies Used
Backend: CodeIgniter 4 (HMVC)
Frontend: Bootstrap 4, JavaScript, DataTables
Authentication: Google OAuth, Yahoo OAuth
Data Management: CRUD implementation, AJAX
Payment/Fundraising: Midtrans API (planned)
🛠️ Solutions
Developed a modular structure using HMVC to separate components for scalability and maintainability
Built reusable CRUD components for fast input and management of alumni data
Integrated DataTables for responsive and searchable directories
Implemented OAuth login systems (Google & Yahoo) for easier access
Designed a UI/UX experience tailored for alumni from multiple generations, with focus on clarity, accessibility, and user engagement
🏁 Results / Conclusion
Although still in progress, the platform has laid a strong foundation for:
Alumni database centralization
Enhanced communication and networking
Business promotion among alumni
Event attendance tracking and engagement
Sustainable fundraising via digital payments
This project demonstrates the potential of transforming alumni relations into an integrated digital ecosystem—and I look forward to finalizing and launching it in the near future.
